An installation developed for the re-opening of a fine-art high school in Malmö, Sweden.

From a broad brief to "visualize and emphasize that new things are happening with the development of New Malmö Latin School", this installation was developed in collaboration with the School's target user group, to arrive at a set of visually abstract forms that follow visitors, inquisitive and welcoming, providing a moment of surprise and enjoyment at the entrance of the information centre for the new school.

The initial development of ideas was collaborative, as was the building of prototypes and the creation of the initial computer vision application, and I was responsible for the final production.

Developed and produced with Clara Leivas.
Technologies used: Processing, Arduino.

Images from the final result. Renovations were underway in the building, hence the unfinished wall.

Design Process

Initially we went through a discovery process where we identified through informal meetings what effect the Nya Malmö Latin School was interested in obtaining. We then met with their target group to identify how we could obtain a satisfactory result.

We then realized some of these ideas in prototypes, investigating how the target group reacted in relation to different types of servo-based motion.

The second prototype took parts of the most well received prototypes and refined them. It also served as a technical prototype test of the Processing based computer vision tracking solution.
